IMG 5496

Notes From the Cellar…..

With a couple weeks of natural disasters causing enormous devastation both at home and for our neighbors, we will be donating 5% of our sales this weekend to the Red Cross Disaster Relief fund. It's a great night to stock up and stay out of the rain while supporting those effected by these storms. Join us this weekend as we will be sampling a crisp, textured Gruener Veltliner and a rich, dark fruited Malbec. Stop by Friday from 3-6 and Saturday to sample these as well as check out the latest new beers!
Take 10% off the wines we are tasting this weekend:
’15 Weingut Söllner Gruener Veltliner, Wagram, Austria- Toni Söllner is a small-scale producer of handcrafted Bio-dynamic wines in the hills of the Donauland now called Wagram, looking over the Danube valley just to the east of the Kamptal. The vines grow on terraces of loess (some of the deepest deposits in the world), mussel-chalk, and red gravel, amidst herbs, legumes and wild flowers. The wine is aged in large oak foudre in the traditional Austrian fashion; very well balanced and textured with expressive minerality, it is a light, refreshing & fruity wine. An wonderful pairing for seafood dishes- particularly white fish or shellfish, poultry and creamy cheeses. $17.99 (1ltr)
’15 La Posta Paulucci Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina- Argentina’s best small-family growers express their individual passions with single-grower, single-vineyard wines. This single vineyard Malbec is sourced from the region of Ugarteche located in the sub-appellation of Lujan de Cuyo, where soils are a mix of a sandy loam, sand, clay, and silt. Aged 12 months, 80% in mostly 2nd use French oak barrels. With aromas of red cherry, blackberry and some hints of violet followed by notes of toasted oak, this is a rich and creamy wine on the palate finishing with smooth tanning. Excellent with a range of food from pastas to meat and milder hard cheeses, this is a great wine to settle in with and stay warm. $19.99
On the beer front we have new deliveries from Night Shift, Banded Horn, Down the Road, Relic, Devil's Purse, Kelsen, and the Tap.

’12 Verget Bourgogne Blanc -Terres de Pierres’, Burgundy, France- Verget is the name of the négoce owned and run by Jean-Marie Guffens in the Maconnais. He also has a small Macon domaine, Domaine Guffens-Heynen, which makes some of the greatest Chardonnay in the world. His conviction was and still is that the best wine is made using the best grapes. He buys only handpicked grapes. His focus is on the use of lees, on the gentlest-possible handling of the fruit and the young wine, and on barrel fermentation. The resulting wine is a minerally Chardonnay with beautifully balanced pear and apple-blossom fruit with beautiful textured richness. $19.99
’14 Château le Bonnat Graves Rouge, Bordeaux, France- The Lesgourgues family are among the most dynamic in the French wine world; Denis make traditional wines that are the opposite of flashy that aren’t made for quick tasting at competitions. Well regarded by the locals of Graves for their great expression of the local terroir their vines average 35 years of age and are planted on the silty/clay gravel of the region. A 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot aged for a year in oak.
